A Sad Loss For the Horse Industry

The passing of Z Princess, world class race horse Zenyatta’s filly, has been a shock to the horse world. “It is with a heavy heart that I must report the death of the 2014 War Front / Zenyatta weanling filly.  She was humanely euthanized last night at Rood and Riddle Equine Hospital after a paddock accident on the farm.” According to staff at the farm where Z princess was being boarded. The Farish family is very heart broken over the loss of this precious filly although they will not release anymore information about the paddock accident.

Upsetting Loss For #1 Georgia

It came down to the last ride but the SMU equestrian team pulled a thrilling, tiebreaking victory over No. 1 ranked and defending national champion Georgia. They beat them on the raw score, meaning their points were tied but they had more scoring. This made the top ten change dramatically once again.

NCAA Vote Moved

The NCAA has decided to move their vote that decides whether or not they drop the sport of equestrain. The vote has been moved to sometime in spring. Many people in the horse industry have shown support by signing petitions on social media and forums.

Protest to Come Against NCAA

Many top schools that have the sport of equestrian such as Baylor, South Carolina, and Texas A&M are fighting against the dropping of the sport of equestrian. There is scheduled to be a protest by many schools to ride to the front of the NCAA building and stand there on horseback. When this event has an official date I will let you know.

NCAA to Drop the Sport of Equestrian

It has recently come out that the NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association) has put in a petition to drop the sport of equestrian from their program. The sport of equestrian has been on the Emerging Sports List for the past 13 years. Since the sport has failed to reach the needed 40 schools in that time they want to drop it. Kansas State University who is currently ranked third in the standings has already dropped their team effective starting the year of 2017. Many schools that have the sport of equestrian are fighting this vote which will be decided in February 2015.

Delaware State to Come Out on Top Against Ohio and Centenary!

In the past weekend the Delaware State Hornets hosted a three way competition at their farm Gamblers Choice. The schools that competed were; Texas Christian University, The Ohio State and Centenary College. On Friday October 3rd, DSU competed against TCU but fell 12-3 to the seventh ranked team in the league. On Saturday October 4th, DSU competed against The Ohio State and Centenary. DSU came out on top with a 10-5 win against the two school combo. Next DSU will host University of Tennessee at Martin and South Dakota University at Gamblers Choice.

Top Ten Shake up

This past week the NCEA posted their top ten rankings for the next two weeks.

There was a big shake up after the South Carolina Gamecocks fell to the University of Georgia-dogs. Leaving USC ranking sixth and UGA continues to reign first ranking.
